Everything You Need to Know:

Understanding The Nordic Spa Experience

A Nordic spa is a wellness experience centered around the thermal cycle, which alternates between heat, cold, and rest. This practice is designed to relax the body, improve circulation, and promote overall well-being in a calm, natural setting.

Nordic wellness retreats center on the practice of hydrotherapy and relaxation. The tradition has roots in Scandinavian culture and uses steam, water, and air at varying temperatures to create benefits which support physical recovery, mental well-being, and overall health. The sequence of hot and cold therapy is understood to cause physiological reactions that improve cardiovascular health, aid in recovery, and improve mental focus.

Nordic spas offer a combination of hot-cold hydrotherapy, relaxation, and mindfulness that supports physical recovery, mental well-being, and overall health. Benefits may include boosted immunity and relaxation, increased circulation, reduced muscle tension, improved sleep, and more. We encourage guests to learn more about the benefits of Nordic spa cycles and talk with their doctor to be sure the experience is right for them.

Traditionally Nordic spas are self-paced, and we encourage guests to move with the flow that works best for them and their bodies. For those new to the Nordic spa experience, we suggest the following but recommend all guests listen to their bodies and adjust times as needed. The duration of a Nordic cycle could follow these general guidelines:

  1. Heat to raise your body’s core temperature, promoting sweating and relaxation, we suggest 10-15 minutes,
  2. Cold to help cool the body and stimulate circulation, from several seconds up to 5 minutes, and
  3. Rest to allow the body to rest recover their heart rate and blood pressure for 10-20 minutes.

For a complete thermal experience, we suggest guests repeat this cycle at their own pace 3-4 times to maximize benefits.
